How long shall I seek news of you and keep asking,
How much I recite poetry about you and ask,
While my tears stream over my cheek?
While tears flow down my cheeks continuously.
والامَand until when أكتُمُI conceal حبّكمlove for you منfrom بعدِafter مَاthat

And how long shall I conceal my love for you, now that
And I conceal the love for you after
Signs and proofs against me have become plain?
Clear proofs and evidence have appeared to me.

And vainly I seek union with you, after
And I desire to reach you, lost, after
The slanderers incited others against us and the reproacher persisted.
The slanderers tempted us and the blamer interfered.

And I say, "Your home draws near to ours."
And I say your home is near ours,
Far-fetched—indeed, far-fetched—is what I say!
Alas! Alas! I am not saying the truth.

The camel-driver was unfair to you when he sang
The guide did not do justice to you when he guided
To the worn-out she-camels as they trotted onward.
To the delicate, tender, pregnant she-camels.

You departed; since you left, the water at noon is no longer
You are the fresh, sweet waters of the noon, after you,
Sweet, nor do the bān trees beside the pools sway.
Pure, not mixed, inclined to be turbid.

And your caravans set out, as though
And I endured your love as if
They bore the hearts that bore them.
It is to ardent hearts burdens to carry.

Polished, veils and tresses.

I long to draw near to you, but I am barred by
I yearn to come close to you but I am prevented
A vast lowland plain and a far-stretching barrier.
By an expansive, extensive abyss.

So may joy-bringing waters drench your ruins, O Banān—
So enjoy your wishes, O delightful date palms,
The streams, that is, and the clouds pouring rain.
They are the streams and pouring rain.
