فانّك عندي للقريب محلة

وإن بَعُدت دارٌ وشط مزار

وإن بَعُدت دارٌ وشط مزار

For you hold a place close to me,

For you are always dear though far you dwell,

Though the dwelling is far and the place of visitation remote.

And distant home and winding way as well,

ومَا زادك الواشونَ الاَّ محبةً

ومَا زادك الواشونَ الاَّ محبةً

وإن كثروا في العذل عنك وحاروا

وإن كثروا في العذل عنك وحاروا

And the slanderers have only increased my love for you,

Nor have the slanderers, for all their guile,

Though they abounded in reproach over you and were baffled.

Diminished aught of love that doth excel,

أرادوا بما قالوا تفرق شملنا

أرادوا بما قالوا تفرق شملنا

وكان بودي لو بقيت وساروا

وكان بودي لو بقيت وساروا

They sought, through what they said, to break our union,

Although they hoped to part us for a while,

And I wished that you had stayed and they had departed.

My only wish was that you here might dwell.

فما راقني مذغبت عني رائقٌ

فما راقني مذغبت عني رائقٌ

ولا قرّلي مذغبت عنك قرار

ولا قرّلي مذغبت عنك قرار

So nothing pleasing has pleased me since you went away from me,

No joy have I since you no more are near,

Nor have I found rest since I went away from you.

Nor comforting without you can I find.

فاهلاً وسهلاً كلما زرت إنّني

فاهلاً وسهلاً كلما زرت إنّني

على العهد باقٍ والديار ديار

على العهد باقٍ والديار ديار

So welcome whenever you visit; indeed, I

So welcome ever, whensoe'er you come!

Remain true to the pledge, and the dwellings remain the same.

True to my vows, my land your land I hold.
