When their familiar landmarks grew strange to my eye,
My tears kept flowing in their channels.

For her aloofness, while bearing a cloak wearied her?

The spear’s point almost grows tender at his hand,
And the keen, cutting blade is worn thin by that hand’s favors.

And the sun is too great for a concealer to hide it.

Indeed, the branches bear witness to the roots,
Through their sweetness, always, when you gather them.

Nor has it complained of thirst while al-Fadl gives it drink.
