لله آيةُ سؤددٍ وجلال
حملوهthey carried him منfrom فوقabove السريرthe bier العاليthe lofty
حملوه من فوق السرير العالي
By God, what a marvel of eminence and majesty!
God has signs of glory and majesty
They bore him atop the lofty bier.
They carried Him above the lofty throne
مَاذاwhat تداولتbore in turn الرقابُthe necks عشيةًat evening
مَاذا تداولت الرقابُ عشيةً
منof بدرa full moon أنديةgatherings وبحرِand an ocean نوالِbounty
من بدر أندية وبحرِ نوالِ
What did the necks bear in turn that evening—
What did the necks whisper in the evening
A full moon of gatherings and an ocean of bounty!
Of the full moon gatherings and the sea of companionship
كنتَyou were الجَمالthe beauty لَكلّfor every دهرage باطلvain
كنتَ الجَمال لَكلّ دهر باطل
فاليومُso today عُطّلَwas stripped bare كلٌevery دهرٍage خاليempty
فاليومُ عُطّلَ كلٌ دهرٍ خالي
You were beauty for every vain age;
You were the beauty for every vain age
So today every empty age has been stripped bare.
So today every empty age is cancelled
مَنْwho للعظائمfor great calamities إنْif فُقِدتyou are lost يُزيَلهاwill dislodge them
مَنْ للعظائم إنْ فُقِدت يُزيَلها
عنfrom حالهاtheir state ويفكand undoes كلَّevery عقالِfetter
عن حالها ويفك كلَّ عقالِ
Who, if you are gone, will face great calamities and dislodge them
Who can remove the magnificent things if lost
From their state, and undo every fetter?
From their state and unbind every knot
