ومَاand what تنكرfinds unfamiliar الدهماءal-Dahma منof رسمtraces of منزلa dwelling
ومَا تنكر الدهماء من رسم منزل
سقتهاgave her to drink ضريبmixed milk الشّوُلshe-camels whose milk has dwindled فيهin it الولائدthe maidservants
سقتها ضريب الشّوُل فيه الولائد
And what does al-Dahma find unfamiliar in a dwelling’s traces,
The ruins no longer deny the shape of home
where the maidservants gave her mixed milk from she-camels whose milk had dwindled?
Where she once nursed her young, now parched and barren
