Say to the orator within: "You have called upon one who answers,"
and ears and eyes have yielded to you.'
And lent you my ears and visions.
"And ears and eyes have submitted humbly to you."

Generosity toward these works is an absolute necessity;

So cover through it deeds, for it is a coat of mail,
So clothe your deeds with it, for it repairs all rents.

And illusion, its affliction is incurable,
And the worst affliction of illusion is this bowing down.

Lifeless matter addressed the living, and trembling followed;
The inanimate spoke so horizons shook,
The living addressed the inanimate, and it trembled for him,
and the horizons surged with its speech.
And waved with its discourse the firmaments,
And the very horizons rippled at his speech.

The Algerians are determined to the tombs,
Yet the sons of Algeria remain resigned to slumber—
I can almost see them awakened at daybreak,
As if I saw them in the morning awakened,
Though it is as if I see them, this very morning, awakening!
