Blessed is a victory bearing witness to heroic deeds,

And a festival on which the warrior emir returned.

Blessed is the festival of victory, which returned with a miracle,

Like the miracle of Jesus, denied by none today:

Noble remains that have parted from death,

And a great dead man returning to life.

Remains upon a bier; yet if, describing him, you said,

'A king upon a throne,' you would not be mistaken.

I see the auspicious star has reunited us

Through our supreme leader; the one who kept us apart has failed.

O days of pride and glory, come forth,

And return, for Abd al-Qadir returns today!

He has indeed returned, borne aloft upon heads,

Hands pledge allegiance to him, and arms protect him.

All eyes gaze upon him; over his procession

Those envied for it and those who envy vie.

And he saluted; an Arab state saluted him in turn,

Whose rebirth he had hoped and pleaded for.

For its revolutionary leader leads his procession,

And its Revolutionary Council paves the way for security.

And from its people's army, a guardian of the procession,

Trustworthy, a protector and supporter of order,

Offers salutes with arms, while above him

A crescent-bearing banner rises into the air.

It claps in welcome to him, dancing,

Exultant at the glad news of him, lost in ecstasy.

And the people hastened to welcome him, crying 'God is greatest,'

Reverently, as a worshipper faces the House.

Their cries of 'God is greatest' thunder from every side,

As thunderous rainclouds rumble on the horizon.

Welcome, then, to the emir, gracing

His homeland in honor, with the times on his side.

And welcome! You are the noblest guest

Among us—what visitor in this age is your equal?

And welcome! Your land today is free,

And your army is victorious, and your people rightly guided.

Your revolution once unfolded in the land of Algeria,

Of which our history boasts, vying in glory.

You raided the invaders with ferocity

And valor, in campaigns that you commanded.

And you plunged into the depths of war, championing the faith,

Enduring all that you endured of its horrors.

So there you received 'Nasir al-Din' ('Defender of the Faith') as an adornment,

With which your father adorned you in the field of valor.

And many a field of horsemanship you traversed,

And beneath you, a sturdy steed, a hunter of wild beasts.

You shot forth on it like an arrow, vaulting onto its back,

So a foe well versed in horsemanship feared you.

And many a negotiating session you took part in,

Your words heeded, and your judgment prevailing.

Through it you attained the peace whose waters you sought,

By your judgment—but intrigues muddied it.

You stood firm, but stumbling fortune betrayed you,

So it hindered you, and your aims eluded you.

If your bitter surrender made our wound linger,

Then from the Liberation Front comes one to bind the wound.

And you were its leader in yesterday's revolution,

And in today's revolution you are its pioneer!

Your banner is bound to its very banner,

And none but your struggle has bound it.

So two dominions suffice you: past and present,

And two glories in this world: newly won and inherited.

The Revolutionary Council honored your legacy and chose

A festival for your return, a day whose memory is eternal.

It returned you with honor to the beloved homeland,

As one sheathing a keen sword returns it to its scabbard.

And you found in the land of Algeria a nation

You nurtured, now governing with the keys of power in its hands.

It overthrew the tyrant's rule and shattered

His chains; oppression must come to an end.

The usurper who banished you from it by his tyranny has departed,

As the tyrant who thought you doomed has perished.

You sowed a crop there whose ripening came late,

And here you are, in the hereafter, reaping your crop.
