So contemplate it: you will find a great brain,
So observe, you will find a great mind
Contemplate it, and you shall find a mighty mind,
Brimming with hopes, and a distinguished face.
Abundant with purpose and an eminent face
Teeming with aspirations, and a dignified countenance.
وتأملand contemplate تجدyou will find شعوراfeeling عميقاdeep

And contemplate it: you will find deep feeling,
And observe, you will find profound feelings
And contemplate, and you shall find profound sentiment,
And sound reason, and discerning thought.
And sound rhetoric and ingenious thought
A preponderant intellect, and an astute thought.

Why is he resting his head upon his palm?
Why has he placed his head on his palm?
What ails him, resting his head upon his palm?
What fit, I wonder, does he complain of?
I wonder which torment afflicts him
I wonder, of what calamity does he complain?
ماwhat لهis with him ناظراgazing بطرفwith an eye كليلweary

ياoh ترىdo you suppose أيwhich لوحةpicture يجتليهاhe beholds it
Why is he gazing with a weary eye?
Why does he look with a sleepy eye?
What ails him, gazing with a weary eye?
What picture, I wonder, does he behold?
I wonder which scene it surveys
I wonder, what vision is he scrutinizing?

Perhaps he has lost his way in life,
Perhaps in life he lost his way
Perhaps he has lost his way in life,
And wandered bewildered in its desert.
And wandered confused in its desert
And in its wilderness, he wanders bewildered.
هكذاthus تفعلact القوافيthe rhymes، فويحso woe
للقوافيto the rhymes وللذيand to the one who يقتفيهاfollows them
This is what rhymes do—so woe
Thus does rhyme act, alas
This is what rhymes do—so woe
To rhymes, and to the one who follows them.
For rhyme and those who pursue it
To the rhymes, and to him who pursues them.
