  1. لعلك والآمال حيرى كليمة

    لسان الأسى في الليل يهتك أسراري

    Perhaps you, while hopes are bewildered and wounded,

    are sorrow’s tongue in the night, laying bare my secrets.

  2. لعلك صوت الغيب أو صيحة الهوى

    ترددها الأقدار أو وحى أشعاري

    Perhaps you are the voice of the unseen, or love’s cry,

    echoed by the fates, or the inspiration of my verses.
