A phantom of sorrow and sickness,

The pain that lies within the breast.

And poetry, amid its sorrows,

Pours out the cup of hope;

غوامض المستقبل

It carries in its shrouds

The mysteries of the future.

I pour out to it, in my solitude,

The moans of a love-stricken heart,
