فانمـحى كيدُ الأعادي

You lived for me, close by, for a day,

and so the enemies' scheming vanished.

So the enemies' plots faded away

And the malice of enemies was erased.

ابتعـد عن كـل ماقد

يبتـلي هَمّـاً فـؤادي

يبتـلي هَمّـاً فـؤادي

Keep away from all that might

Stay away from everything

Stay away from all that might

afflict my heart with grief.

That causes my heart distress

خَـلِّ في عيني دموعـاً

اكتـوينـا بالبـعـادِ

Leave tears in my eyes;

Leave the tears within my eyes,

we were seared by separation.

We were burned by separation

We have been scorched by separation.

إنَّ دمعي جـدُّ غـالِ

إنَّ دمعي جـدُّ غـالِ

قد تـلاشى بالسُّـهادِ

قد تـلاشى بالسُّـهادِ

Indeed, my tears are very precious;

Indeed, my tears are genuine

Indeed, my tears are truly precious,

they have vanished through sleeplessness.

They have faded with grief

Yet they vanished with the sleeplessness.

كيف تبغي أنت وأْدي

كيف تبغي أنت وأْدي

بعـد شهـر في الودادِ

بعـد شهـر في الودادِ

How can you wish to bury me alive

How can you want, my hand,

How can you desire to bury me alive,

after a month of affection?

After a month of affection

After a month of tender affection?

أنت يا من صَـدَّ عني

أنت يا من صَـدَّ عني

إنَّ شـوقي في ازديـادِ

إنَّ شـوقي في ازديـادِ

You who turned away from me—

You, oh one who turned away from me

You, who have turned away from me,

indeed, my longing is growing.

Indeed, my longing is increasing

Truly, my longing only grows.

لا تعـادي قَطُّ مهـما

زاد حُـمْقي أو عـنادي

Never be hostile, however much

Never oppose no matter how much

Never act as an enemy, no matter how much

my foolishness or stubbornness grows.

ليس ذكـري غيرُ آهٍ

عنك دومـاً في الفـؤادِ

عنك دومـاً في الفـؤادِ

My remembrance is nothing but a sigh

My memory is nothing but a sigh

for you, always in my heart.

فانتـحرنا نحن سِـرّاً

فانتـحرنا نحن سِـرّاً

وبذا نـرضي الأعـادي

وبذا نـرضي الأعـادي

So we took our own lives in secret,

and thus we please the enemies.

And thereby satisfy the enemies

O my companion in sorrow, wipe

away my tears; do not be hostile.
