When I die, announce my death to guests from afar,

cast forth by a dark night of pitch-black gloom.

My fire is kindled for them, and its light is recognized,

and my dwelling is occupied, on the open ground before them.

I do not hang back when the horses hasten,

nor am I scowling and grim toward a guest.

But he is met with a greeting from me,

and my generosity and gifts reach him before any excuse.

And my face greets them cheerfully, and promptly comes

my hospitality; every prompt offering is among the best forms of hospitality.
