ولاand do not تحمدpraise المرءthe man قبلbefore البلاءthe test
ولا تحمد المرء قبل البلاء
ولاand let not يسبقprecede السيلthe torrent منكfrom you المطرthe rain
ولا يسبق السيل منك المطر
And do not praise a man before he is tested.
Judge not a man before his trial,
And let not your torrent precede the rain.
Nor run before the rain, the flood.
وانيand indeed I لأَعرفsurely recognize سيماthe distinguishing marks of الرجالmen
واني لأَعرف سيما الرجال
كَماjust as يعرفrecognize القائفونthe trackers الأثرthe trail
كَما يعرف القائفون الأثر
And I surely recognize the distinguishing marks of men,
The marks of men I know full well,
As trackers recognize a trail.
As trackers know the track.
