أوطنٌ من رامةٍ بوطنِ
Where are you bound, O stirrer of the departing caravans?
Where do you want to go, O stirrer of troubles,
Would you trade the homeland of Rama for another?
A homeland better than Ramah in a homeland?

Halt, even if your provision is only a mouth-rinse,
Even if being imprisoned increased your rinsing
fearful, between fitful sleep and drowsiness.
Fearfully between the gullies and the spearheads.

Perhaps they may find relief, openly confessing—
Perhaps it will be soothed by the lament
eyes in tears, from the hurt of other eyes.
Of eyes from eyes with tears.

How many a noble liver in a nose-ring
How many noble livers in innocence
you have pierced, and a soul in a halter!
You wounded, and protected souls in bodies.

And from blood you wade without blood
the camels' forelegs wade through on parting's passes!
On the folds of separation the hands of bodies.

The left-crossing bird pledged for them, and fulfilled
Yesterday evening brought what saddened me
what grieved me when it passed inauspiciously.
When one other than Ayman passed.

And I did not expect the birds, while they were worried,
would show me the appointed hours of death.
To guide me to the times of perdition.

on farewell's day, one bough with another.
On the day of farewell, a branch with a branch.

O may God destroy the shameful stance
which made me slip though my feet stood firm!
That made my standing feet stumble.

And he happily bid farewell while being dejected
in my abject vigil after them among the ruined camps.
My standing after them in the settlement saddened me.

They took their noon rest in the shade of every meadow,
So they went into the shade of every garden
and drove me through noon's heat into anguish and sorrow.
And deserted me to the hot wind and sorrow.

the gentle east wind and the clear water of rainclouds—
Is the pardon of the zephyr and the taste of sprinkled water.

My heart, so why did they not do good to my body?

I languished from Ramah the best of passions
for a glimpse that might prove true to me.
For a look that may believe me.

Except for my if only or if only I were.

With it the separation between us had not happened.

My loved ones, my noble brothers, brought me closer.

The perfect fulfillment, vast generosity?

Covering what it did not see or hear
so the earth lies between her eye and ear.
So the land between its eye and ear.

It sees the places of rest and the saved
as two figures between her tailbone and chin.
Two personalities between its wonder and beard.

It gives the road its pardon and effort
until she becomes a morsel of flesh, yet never slackens.
Until it returns chewed up and does not complain.

With the ignorance of two years, so if you rouse it
a youngster's surge, a young camel's bucking leaps!
The rebellion of pride and the folds of bending.

by a flying mother-bird whose chicks are in their nests.
Flying, or mother of the chicks of the nest.

Say to the chief when you arrive safe
a yearning complaint, a tale of grief.
The complaint of longing and talk of sadness.

To longing, without possessing me first.

Away from me, even if your heart is soft to me.

And how much you spend the night covered in doubt
your love, and to the conjectures of dark suspicion!
In your love, and the stoning of bad thoughts.

Claiming love as if we did not separate
and heedlessness, as though you had never seen me!
And heedlessness as if you did not see me.

So why do our hands loosen the knot?

why should we aid the vicissitudes of time?
So why do we try to change time?

That wishes it could be intimate but does not become intimate.

Keeps away from you, revolting and buzzing.

For my conscience, and its worst for my body.

It ties me to the rope of one who lost me
as firmly as to the rope of one who safeguards me.
You tied it to the rope of one who will protect me.

in affection, the best of what you see openly;
In my affection, in secret from my conscience.

And that you gained support from me with a hand
never overcome through weakness or frailty.
You were not given from weakness or from flimsiness.

I told my age, as it bared its fangs at me:
I said to my time, and it scolded me
'Al-Amid's charms will stop you biting me!'
To ascend to the chief without you eroding me.

An awe-inspiring man for whom I sold mankind and the world:

I never clasped the right hand of loss.
So I did not clap my hands in pleasure of deceit.

And I inclined in the heavier of his balance scale
against all mankind, when I told merit, 'Weigh!'
Above people when I said to virtue, weigh!

And I was, with the glimmer of testing him,
the certainty of one who persists and perseveres.
Certain of the lasting, regular certainty.

So there joined with me in declaring him without equal
So different hearts and variations of tongues
diverse hearts and tongues of many kinds.
Gathered with me upon his uniqueness.

And though he was distant in fellowship, he kept faith
And if he cuts off with his connection, then he has fulfilled
with his wealth, with a just benefactor's fidelity.
With his money, the fairness of a benefactor.

He stood forth as the days were snatching me away,
And he stood while the days try to save me
and became for me close-woven mail, mother of shields.
So he was for me, a barn at the mother of insanity.

faithful in giving even what he had never promised.
With fairness from generosity that he did not guarantee.

However he judged, from the poor or the able.

Their kindness was never entangled in an excuse,
His favors were not mixed with an excuse their people know
nor did they come worn down by reminders of obligation.
Nor did they come, brought low with favors.

Strange, with it he won the duty of the call of light
racing ahead to its extra gifts and voluntary acts.
Preceding its spoils and traditions.

He was not like those who flash empty promises,
And he was not like those who deceived
by whom men were beguiled with 'daughters of dung-heaps.'
Some men with the daughters of the settlements.

I sent him as a brimming bucket to their pools:
I sent him barefaced to their treachery
they ran dry; he overflowed until he drenched me.
So they withered while it overflowed until it reached me.

Their fires spark not to burn the villages
but from a greedy craving to inhale smoke.
But only to spread the smoke.

No guest, however wealthy they become, finds lodging
The guest does not alight, even if they pretend
with anyone among them who provides dates or milk.
Generosity, from them, nor with curdled milk.

Other than loyalty, light, and wit.

There is no honor in Mudar that attracts them

To the heights, nor prohibition in Yemen.

Neither the desert's poverty caused their broken pledges
Neither the Bedouin's tenderness brought about their betrayal
to my praise, nor the judgment of the cities.
Of my praise, nor the sweetness of the cities.

I dishonored noble maidens in their houses,
I disgraced in their verses nobilities
who would not have been debased had they married their equals.
That if married to their equals would not be disgraced.

They wore necklaces of their own praise from them,
They wore from it necklaces of their praise
yet there upon their necks those maidens reproach me.
While it, on their steeds, dispraised me.

If it was mistreated, its lowly one yelled at me

You humbled me among obscure souls,
You humiliated me among lowly souls
stern faces and rough hands!'
And grim faces, coarse hands, and rough fingers.

بناتُهُ فالحقُّ أن تعُقَّني
Who will defend them against me? Though a father be disowned
So who does it have against me, even if it blames
by his daughters, they are right to disown me.
A father whose daughters blame me?

Except one maiden among them who won favor
Except for a girl among them who enjoyed
with al-Amid, the astute and discerning.
Distinction with the chief, wise and cunning.

إلى مَراحٍ ما اشتهتْ ودَدَنِ
We fell into straits, while she alone went
We came to hardship and she alone came
to all the mirth she desired, and play.
To places of rest she wished for and wanted.

شرطَ المنى وقُرّةً للأعينِ
She bore, from his generosity, favors
And she gave birth by his generosity to hands
that met desire's terms, a comfort to the eyes.
That fulfill wishes and delight the eyes.

Each coming day, I am given a morning draught
Every coming day, the giver of glad tidings awakens me
of it by a herald of good, or he gives me an evening one.
With it, or the gloom overwhelms me.
ماnot ضرَّنيharmed me منهمamong them أصمُّa deaf man لَحِزٌmiserly
ما ضرَّني منهم أصمُّ لَحِزٌ
وأنتwhile you منfrom كسورهمtheir fractures تجبرُنيmend me
وأنت من كسورهم تجبرُني
No deaf, miserly man among them has harmed me,
No loss from them harmed me, I am deaf to sorrow,
when you mend the breaks they made in me.
While you from their fragments have healed me.

كنتَ إليهم سُلَّما فقعدوا

فهدَموا المجد وقمتَ تبتني
You were a ladder toward them, but they stayed seated:
You were a ladder to them, so they sat
they tore down glory, while you rose to build.
And they destroyed glory while you stand accusing me.

جفَّ القَليبُ فارتوت بالشَّطَنِ
Who, before my thirst, has seen a lip
So who before saw my companions a lip
drink its fill from the rope when the well ran dry?
That dries the heart and is watered with yearning?

You flooded us with bounty; as for their reputations,
So we were flooded for their denial
what afflicts them comes in clear sky and clouded:
With what saddened it, in separation and estrangement.

every face-disfiguring thing, a disgrace
Every walker to the faces disgraced
to their name, in its wanderings and at its watering-place.
Remembrance by his hosted wanderings and twistings.

And you have the studded of his jewelry
and the choicest of its concealed secrets;
And the elite of his secret, treasured.

With the skill of the skilled and the maneuvers of ships.

They spare no effort, digging for a treasure of their own,
Do not worry, digging for a treasure for it
spending from it now and laying riches by.
To spend from immediately, and store.
