قامstood بِرِجْلٍon a leg ومشىand walked علىon يدِa hand
قام بِرِجْلٍ ومشى على يدِ
ممترِياًdrawing forth للرزقِfor sustenance منfrom سيبِbounty يدِa hand
ممترِياً للرزقِ من سيبِ يدِ
It stood on a leg and walked on a hand,
He stood on one leg and walked on his hand
Drawing sustenance from a hand's bounty.
Riding for sustenance from the back of his hand
أهيفُslender-waisted وهوand it is فيamong السِّمانِthe stout معرِقٌdeeply rooted in lineage
أهيفُ وهو في السِّمانِ معرِقٌ
وواحدٌand one وهوand it is كثيرُmany العَدَدِthe number
وواحدٌ وهو كثيرُ العَدَدِ
Slender-waisted, yet deeply rooted among the stout,
Fragile yet strong in challenging times
And one, yet many in number.
One yet many in number
يمدُّهfeeds it حبلٌa cord ضعيفٌweak فتلهُits twisting
يمدُّه حبلٌ ضعيفٌ فتلهُ
حتىuntil يعودَit becomes مُحْكماًmade firm ذاpossessing جلَدِtoughness
حتى يعودَ مُحْكماً ذا جلَدِ
A cord, weak in its twisting, feeds it,
A weak rope extends him
Until it becomes firm and tough.
Until he returns sturdy and resilient
يُشِتُّscatters شملاًa gathering كلّماwhenever فرقهit divided it
يُشِتُّ شملاً كلّما فرقه
أَلَّفَbrought together منهfrom it بينamong شملa gathering بددِscattered
أَلَّفَ منه بين شمل بددِ
It scatters a gathering; whenever it divides it,
He unites whenever separated
From it, it brings a scattered gathering together.
Bringing together those divided
تُبصرyou see منof عظامهِits bones وجِلدهِand its skin
تُبصر من عظامهِ وجِلدهِ
إذاwhen اكتسىit clothed itself in اللُّجينَsilver فوقover العسجدgold
إذا اكتسى اللُّجينَ فوق العسجد
You see something of its bones and its skin
You see from his bones and skin
When it clothes itself in silver over gold.
When dressed in armor over bone
