Is there reunion after the camel-litters have parted?
Is there a gathering after the parting of companions?
Or can bygone time with them be brought back?
Or is there a time that has passed that can be regained?

They departed; the desert holds their caravan,
The desert bears their traveling party,
while the heart bears for them more than it can hold.
And the heart bears within them more than it can contain.

Westward they go; they had grown used to the sun
They are exiled, and have become accustomed to the sun
never setting wherever they themselves rose.
Not setting anywhere they rise.

Suffering from separation in eyelids and hearts,
With eyelids and hearts complaining of separation from loved ones,
stricken by it with grief like the grief they caused.
Aggrieved by the likes of what aggrieved them.

Languid she-camels bear them onward in their reins,
Listless camels plod on in their misery,
their necks bowed beneath separation's coercion.
Their necks bent under the compulsion of determination.

They yearn for Nu'man, yet will not accept its meadow
Nu'man longs for pastureland he is not content without,
as a home, though summer retreat and spring pasture be pleasant.
Even if Musatafa is pleasant and populous.

A ransom for faithful ones borne by faithful she-camels:
Self-sacrificing women walk with them,
tears that are blood, and a heart in fragments in their wake.
Tears, blood, ferociously in their tracks are cut off.

After them, night, like dawn, stretches on
The night after them is like dawn, unceasing,
as long as it wills; sleep, like union, is cut off.
However it desires, and sleep is like connection, interrupted.

Had rebelled, fallen silent, as they heard.

Had finished me off, so torture has nothing left.

concerning them; I flee from him, while he follows.
Regarding them, but I flee him and he pursues me,

A right, though the ties of passion are deceptive.

Refresh your heart with despair's coolness; through it you will forget.
Comfort your longing with the coolness of despair, find peace in it,
Nothing has been said of love except that it is craving.
Beyond what is said of love except that it is vain hope.

Time has two colors, and the world is ever changing.
Time's two faces, and the world constantly shifting-
Now a heart knows how to restrain itself.
Now a heart knows how to hold back.

These judgments of God's Messenger lie neglected,
The causes of Allah's Messenger are neglected,
through treachery, and God's Messenger's unity is shattered.
Treacherously, and the cloak of Allah's Messenger is torn.

People keep the covenant while they meet and remain near,
The people are true to the covenant they encountered and drew near,
but turn to betrayal while absent and far away.
And true to the treachery when they were absent and transgressed.

After acceptance, and Romans and those who pledge allegiance surrounded.

God will requite certain people for them, for what they did.
May God reward a people for what they did.

They agreed while religion's lance was bent;
They agreed and the course of religion inclined,
once it stood upright, they quarreled over it and cast lots.
So when it stood straight they scrambled and cast lots for it.

Reason judges and the deceived recoils.

Cast lies against religion, so you awoke when they slept.
