تكسوه لِمْ سلبتني سِربالَه
And a garment—beauty itself—which you never ceased
Why did you strip me of its gown?
to bestow: why have you stripped me of its robe?
God, O people of dew, if one of rank

إن فات عزَّ أن تروْا أمثالَه
For God's sake, people of generosity, care for a man
Is lost, it’s hard to see the likes of him
whose like, if he is lost, you will rarely see.
The pregnant earth never gives birth

The fertile earth will never bear
To aid your clans with a brother to him
a brother to him in defending your noble lineages.

You are my spring; if you make thirsty
My land, who can wet it with its moisture?
my soil, who will restore its moisture for me?
How can one travel your praise

كيف يكون مثلاً في صدّكم
مسيِّرٌone who sends abroad فيin مدحكمyour praise أمثالَهhis proverbs
مسيِّرٌ في مدحكم أمثالَه
How can he become a proverb for your rejection,
And match it while none match it?
one who sends his proverbs abroad in your praise?
It covered the dusk with what it sent

To you, not ceasing to send it
in your praise, and he will not cease sending it.

Each one is left unchallenged on its course,
The precedence handed to its characteristics
victory itself having yielded its prizes to it.

The crosswind cannot hope to overtake it,
Nor can time attain it
nor the hand of Orion to reach it.

People unite in proclaiming its oneness,
And eloquence sits in awe of it
and eloquence sits down in reverence for it.
So everything else is an idol

Every other utterance heard is an idol;
Misguiding those who worship it in its misguidance
whoever worships it goes astray with its delusion.

In my time, as if none but me said it
in my own age, as though another had composed it.

strutting proudly through your homes in its own proud gait.

You recognize the excellence of your good fortune
When you see its approach towards you
when you see it turning toward you.

You have recognized its truth as a bearer of good tidings,
And its blessing if you shunned its separation
and its auspiciousness when you divine its omen.

Of your lifetime, and keep pace with its places
of your lives, and keep pace with its hyperbole.

And let the treachery of days be for your enemy:
Or anyone hostile to you, is more deserving of it
woe to whoever opposes you—woe to him!
