دلَّindicated علىto عزِّmight والديْهِhis two parents
دلَّ على عزِّ والديْهِ
واشتدّand grew strong معdespite لينsoftness جانبيْهِhis two sides
واشتدّ مع لين جانبيْهِ
He showed his parents’ might,
He showed the honor of his parents,
and grew strong despite the softness of his two sides.
And was gentle, though firm in his dealings,
زادincreased هَواناin contemptibility لديَّin my eyes لمَّاwhen
زاد هَوانا لديَّ لمَّا
أنthat قُضِيَتْwas fulfilled حاجتيmy need لديْهِwith him
أن قُضِيَتْ حاجتي لديْهِ
He became more contemptible in my eyes when
He became more beloved to me when
my need was fulfilled through him.
He fulfilled my request through him,
يٌقطَعُis cut فيat طَرفِهِhis tip فيُجْزَيand so is repaid
يٌقطَعُ في طَرفِهِ فيُجْزَي
سُوءاًwith harm وماand not القطْعُthe cutting فيin يديْهِhis two hands
سُوءاً وما القطْعُ في يديْهِ
He is cut at his tip and so repaid
Whoever betrays him shall be severed
with harm, though the cutting is not in his hands.
And rewarded with evil, though not by his hands.
