قضاءٌ بوصلٍ غدوةً برواحِ
After a stride, she has no time for frolic;
She walks away after every step,
her duty is to join a morning journey to an evening one.
A farewell upon a morning departure.

And is it anything but a sleep? Allow it, you two,
Is it not just a nap, so pardon her for it,
and it is enough for you both to be awakened to generosity.
And suffice you both to awake her gently.

Otherwise, the wind travels more swiftly to its destination,
Else the wind will blow faster folded,
and often has longing risen in me like winds.
And how much longing blew within me winds of passion.

I say to her, with al-Nahrawan on her route:
I say to her while the stars light her path,
Pass there auspiciously—may you always be a bird of success.
There, lean towards me, you bird of success.

Visit it among the clouds, then gather abundantly;
Carry her in the clouds, then sprinkle
for my clouds are my greetings on the greenest grounds.
My regards to her in the most tender meadow.

A downpour of longing in the mist of comfort."

I complained of fervent love, where can I find patience,
And I slept—oh, the night! Where is my morning?
And I slept, O night, where is my morn?

My yielding deceived you, and you were pleased to see,
It teased you that you were too kind,
when the driver is harsh, how I bolt.
To see when the guide gets upset, how my wings flutter!

May God protect a gazelle roaming freely,
with the aversion of a heart open to disloyalty.
With the zeal of a heart permissible to passion.

And affection is granted to the frank excuse,
in your eyes—yet some excuses are not candid.
Yours to me, though not every excuse is frank.

Messages pass me by, and letters go beyond me;
Messages tempt me and books allow me,
my thirst, an adornment to pure water, is driven away.
My echo is sweet water to quench a meadow.

through one of its corners, it weeps with my wailing.
From a corner of it she wept at corners.

With whom, I wish I knew, and her "I wish" is wonder,
is my youth restored, if I take up my weapons?
My youth returns if I carry my weapon.

Then rebuked me, O companion, a companion's rebuke?

and soared except by flying on my wing?
To soar but a bird in my wings?

May God water my soul! How precious is its pledge
May God water my soul, how honorable her loyalty was
to a handful of miserly men among those I love.
To some whom I love, though miserly.

I desire victory over you, but am held back
by love no faultfinder's reproach has sullied.
By passion that blame did not taint.

So I sheathe my swords in mourning's scabbard
and for love I break my straight-aiming spears.
And break with love the arrows' heads.

My tongue is drunk while my heart is awake.

The dearest wombs to the dearest dwellings.
