ياO أَكرَمَmost generous of الناسpeople مِنamong عُربٍArabs وَمِنand among عَجَمِnon-Arabs
بَعدَafter الخَليفَةِthe caliph ياO ضَرغامَةَlion of العَرَبِthe Arabs
O most generous of people, among Arabs and non-Arabs,
O most generous of all people, Arabs and non-Arabs alike
after the caliph, O lion of the Arabs!
After the Caliph, O Dargham, pride of the Arabs
أَفنَيتَyou have exhausted مالَكَyour wealth تُعطيهِyou give it away وَتُنهِبُهُand you let it be plundered
ياO آفَةbane of الفَضَّةِsilver البَيضاءِwhite وَالذَهَبِand gold
You have exhausted your wealth, giving it away and letting it be plundered,
You exhausted your wealth giving it away and plundering it
O bane of white silver and gold!
O ruin of white silver and gold
إِنَّindeed السِنانَthe spearpoint وَحَدَّand the edge of السَيفِthe sword لَوif نَطَقاboth spoke
لأَخبَراboth would surely tell عَنكَabout you فيin الهَيجاءِbattle بِالعَجَبِof wonders
Indeed, if the spearpoint and the sword’s edge were to speak,
If the spearheads and the sword's blade could speak
they would surely tell wonders of you in battle.
They would tell of your amazing deeds in battle
