مِنfrom وَلَدِoffspring المَهدِيِّal-Mahdi مُهدِيّانِtwo rightly guided ones
مِن وَلَدِ المَهدِيِّ مُهدِيّانِ
قُدّاًboth fashioned عِنانَينِtwo reins عَلىupon عِنانِone rein
قُدّاً عِنانَينِ عَلى عِنانِ
Two rightly guided sons of al-Mahdi,
Two guided ones from the Mahdi's lineage
Fashioned as two reins of equal measure.
With two reins held onto two reins
قَدindeed أَطلَقَset free المَهدِيُّal-Mahdi ليfor me لِسانيmy tongue

عيدِيَّةٌ شاحِطَةُ الأَثمانِ
Silver and eagle-like mounts—
With the two noble and highborn ones
ʿĪdī camels, priced far beyond reach.
A feast day devastating prices
لَوif خايَلَتrivaled دِجلَةَthe Tigris بِالأَلبانِwith milk
لَو خايَلَت دِجلَةَ بِالأَلبانِ

إِذاً لَقيلَ اِشتَبَهَ النَهرانِ
Were they to rival the Tigris with their milk,
If the Tigris were mixed with milk
Then it would be said: 'The two rivers are indistinguishable.'
It would be said the two rivers resembled each other
