Do you think, O Idris, that you can escape
Do you think, O Idris, that you can escape
the caliph’s scheming, or that flight will shield you?
The plots of the Caliph, or will fleeing protect you?

For he will surely reach you, unless you settle in a land
He will come for you, or you will end up in a land
where daylight cannot find its way to you.
Where daylight cannot guide anyone to you,

A king whom death seems to follow his commands
until it is said: the fates obey him.
Until it is said that even fate obeys him
