فَتَحتَyou conquered بِلادَthe lands اللَهِof God دُونَwithout مَشَقّةٍhardship
وَماand not عَرَفَتexperienced أَربابُهاtheir rulers حادِثَاًan event نُكراdreadful
You conquered God's lands without hardship,
Without hardship you opened God's lands
and their rulers experienced no dreadful event.
And their people knew of no strange events
وَلاand no بُدَّescape مِنfrom فَتحِconquering البَقيّةِthe remainder عاجِلاًsoon
وَيَعجَلُand hastens لِلأَشياءِfor things خالِقُهاtheir Creator قَدراby decree
And the rest must surely be conquered soon;
The rest must be opened soon
their Creator hastens things according to His decree.
And their Creator hastens their fate
وَكَمand how many زَهرَةٍa blossom فَتّحَتَyou opened وَهِيَwhile it was كَمامَةٌan unopened bud

And how many a blossom you opened while still a bud,
How many buds you opened while still hidden
yet from opening it you plucked no blossoms but white blades.
Bearing naught but white from their bloom
أَمثلِis there one like ابنِson of هودٍHud آخِذاًtaking vengeance بِتراتِهِfor his wrongs
وَمَنand whoever كانَhas been موتوراًwronged فَلاthen does not يَدَعُabandon الوَتراthe blood-feud
Is there one like Ibn Hud, exacting vengeance for his wrongs?
Like Solomon's son seizing his inherited realm
And whoever has been wronged does not abandon vengeance.
He whose reign was stunted leaves the lute's string
وَإِنand if كانَit was مَغصوباًusurped فَإِنّthen indeed مُحَمَّداًMuhammad
بِصارِمِهwith his sharp blade الهِنديّIndian قَدindeed رَدَّهُrestored it قَهراby force
And if it was usurped, then Muhammad
And if it was seized from him, Muhammad
has indeed restored it by force with his Indian blade.
With his Indian blade took it back by force
وَنادىand called out عَلىupon مُلكٍa realm تَقهقرretreated مُدَّةًfor a time
وَعادَand it returned إِلىto ماwhat كانَit had been فيin مُدّةٍa period أُخرىanother
And he called upon a realm that had retreated for a time,
He called out against a king's retreating rule
and in another span it returned to what it had been.
Which returned to its former state after some time
فَيوشَعُfor Joshua رَدَّturned back الشَمسَthe sun فيin جَريانِهاits course
وَماand not بُعدَتreceded نوراًin light وَلاnor نَقَصَتdiminished عَصراin duration
For Joshua turned back the sun in its course,
Joshua returned the sun to its course
and its light did not recede, nor did its duration diminish.
Its light undimmed, its time unchanged
وَكَمand how many آخرٍa later one قَدindeed جاءَcame بِالفَضلِin merit أَوّلاًfirst
وَهَلأand is ...? تُجعَلُmade الدُنياthis world سِواءًequal مَعwith الأُخرىthe Hereafter
And how many a later one has come first in merit!
While many others came with excellence at first
And is this world made equal to the Hereafter?
Can the two now be made equal?

For the Night of Decree occurs in Ramadan,
So Ramadan gained the Night of Power
and it is confirmed only in Ramadan's final ten nights.
But only its last ten were confirmed as such
