أَتَعجَبُdo you wonder أَنthat قَدَّمتُI put first مَدحَكَyour praise عِندَماwhen
أَتَعجَبُ أَن قَدَّمتُ مَدحَكَ عِندَما
رَأَيتُكَI saw you لِلتَقديمِfor precedence أَهلاًworthy أَباAbu (father of) بَكرِBakr
رَأَيتُكَ لِلتَقديمِ أَهلاً أَبا بَكرِ
Do you wonder that I put your praise first, when
Should I be surprised that I sing your praises when
I saw you worthy of precedence, O Abu Bakr?
I see you worthy of this acclaim, oh Abu Bakr

Those endowed with glory are a line, and praise is a page;
The glorious are but a line, while praise fills pages
And you are like “In the name of God” at the beginning of the line.
And you are like "In God's name" at the line's start
