When I saw the full moon rising
the sky’s horizon, already risen high,
In the horizon of the sky, alone,

and saw the sun’s rim in
And I saw the sun's horns setting
the sunset horizon, already hanging low,
In the horizon of the west, head bowed,

I likened that one and this one,
I likened this one and that one,
and see their likeness as more splendid:
And I saw the two alike, most beautiful.

The beloved's face when it appears,
and the beloved’s nape when he turns away.
The beloved's rump when it turns away.
