خَوفَfor fear of العُيونِthe eyes مِنَfrom الوُشاةِthe talebearers الرُمَّقِthe watchful
خَوفَ العُيونِ مِنَ الوُشاةِ الرُمَّقِ
She spread the braids of her hair to shade me,
She spread her braids to shade me
For fear of the eyes of watchful talebearers.
Lest spies' eyes perceive us
فَكَأَنَّهُso, as though it وَكَأَنَّهاand as though she وَكَأَنَّنيand as though I
فَكَأَنَّهُ وَكَأَنَّها وَكَأَنَّني
صُبحانِtwo dawns باتاthey both spent the night تَحتَbeneath لَيلٍa night مُطبَقِall-enclosing
صُبحانِ باتا تَحتَ لَيلٍ مُطبَقِ

So it was as though it were he and she and I
Two dawns that spent the night beneath an all-enclosing night.
Who yesterday night beneath a starry tent did lie
