بِماءِ الحُسنِ أَورَقَ عارِضاهُ
And his charms have not diminished; rather,
His beauty has not faded, but
With beauty’s water, his cheeks have put forth leaves.
With the water of beauty, his cheek became fresh.
بِهِof him فَهِمتَso you became enamored إِليهِtoward him شَوقاًin longing
بِهِ فَهِمتَ إِليهِ شَوقاً
فَكيفَso how لَكَfor you التَّصَبُّرَpatient endurance لَوif تَراهُyou saw him
فَكيفَ لَكَ التَّصَبُّرَ لَو تَراهُ
So you became enamored of him, yearning toward him;
Through it you felt longing for him.
How, then, could you remain patient if you saw him?
So how can you have patience if you were to see him?
