يَضعُplace الناسُthe people صاحبَthe man of الجاهsocial standing فيهمamong them
يَضعُ الناسُ صاحبَ الجاه فيهم
كلَّevery يومٍday فيin كفّةِthe pan of الميزانِthe scales
كلَّ يومٍ في كفّةِ الميزانِ
People place the man of standing among them
People place the one with high status among them
each day in a pan of the scales.
Every day on the scale
إنif رأوهthey see him يوماًone day ترجّحgrow heavier وزناًin weight
إن رأوه يوماً ترجّح وزناً
ضاعفواthey double البرّkindness فهوfor he ذوpossesses رجحانgreater weight
ضاعفوا البرّ فهو ذو رجحان
If they see him one day grow heavier in weight,
If they see him one day heavier in weight
they double their kindness, for he carries greater weight.
They multiply the good deeds for he has more weight
أوor رأواthey see منهُfrom him نقصa loss of حبّةa grain وزنٍof weight
أو رأوا منهُ نقص حبّة وزنٍ
ماكسوهُthey haggle with him فيover حبّةٍa grain of الجُلجلانsesame
ماكسوهُ في حبّةٍ الجُلجلان
Or if they see him lose a grain in weight,
Or if they see in him less a grain of weight
they haggle with him over a grain of sesame.
They do not cover him with a single grain
