I came among you, seeking your aid,

وجاورتكم عندَ جوْر الزمانِ

فما كانَ في القوم من قامَ دوني

I dwelt as your neighbor in the face of Time’s injustice,

And I lived beside you amid time's injustice.

Yet no one among the people rose in my defense.

Yet no one among the people stood in my defense.

وأحببتكُم حبَّ نفسي الحياةَ

وأحببتكُم حبَّ نفسي الحياةَ

فكانَ جزائي أن تقتلوني

فكانَ جزائي أن تقتلوني

I loved you as my own soul loves life,

And I loved you as my soul loves life.

And my reward was that you should kill me.
