أناI أحويI hold ذخائرtreasures الأعلاقِthe precious things
وأصونُand I safeguard الحليَّthe jewelry فيin أغلاقِlocks
I hold treasures of precious things,
I contain the treasures of the depths
And safeguard the jewelry behind locks.
And I guard the jewelry in enclosures
فكأنَّso it is as though عينيmy eye وجفنيand my eyelid غطائيmy covering
ولآلىand pearls الحُلىthe jewelry دمعُtears المآقيthe corners of the eyes
So it is as though my eye and eyelid were my covering,
As if my eyes and their lids were my covers
And the jewelry’s pearls were tears from the corners of the eyes.
And for the jewelry, the tears of separations
أناI كالصدرِlike the chest أكتمI conceal السرَّthe secret لكنْbut
أجعلI place العقدthe necklace فيّwithin me تحتَbeneath التراقيthe collarbones
I am like the chest: I conceal the secret, yet
I am like the chest, I conceal the secret, but
I place the necklace within me, beneath the collarbones.
I make the pearls in me under the necklaces
