يا سائلي عن اسم من تملّكا
قلبيmy heart أناI والحبّby love (an oath) أبْديهI reveal it لكاto you
قلبي أنا والحبّ أبْديه لكا
O you who ask me the name of the one who has possessed
O you who ask about the name of the one who has taken possession
my heart: by love, I shall reveal it to you.
Of my heart, I and eternal love are for you
اسمthe name حبيبيmy beloved ظاهرٌvisible مقلوبُهits reversed form
اسم حبيبي ظاهرٌ مقلوبُه
فيin ثغرهhis mouth فابصْرso look لهat him إنif ضحكاhe smiles
في ثغره فابصْر له إن ضحكا
The reversed form of my beloved’s name is plainly visible
The name of my beloved is apparent when reversed
in his mouth; so look at him if he smiles.
In his smile, so look at it if he laughs
