زرْvisit غَريباًa stranger بمغربٍin the Maghrib
زرْ غَريباً بمغربٍ
نازحاًfar from home مالَهhe has no وليْprotector
نازحاً مالَه وليْ
Visit a stranger in the Maghrib,
Visit a stranger in the west
far from home, with no protector.
A refugee with no guardian
تركوهُthey left him موسّداًpillowed
تركوهُ موسّداً
بينَamid تُربٍearth وجَنْدلِand stones
بينَ تُربٍ وجَنْدلِ
They left him pillowed
They left him lying down
amid earth and stones.
Between dust and mignonette
ولتقلْand say عندَat قبرهhis grave
ولتقلْ عندَ قبره
بلسانِwith the tongue of التذلُلِhumble submission
بلسانِ التذلُلِ
And say at his grave,
And say at his grave
with the tongue of humble submission:
With a humbled tongue
رحِمmay He have mercy on اللّهُGod عَبدهHis servant
رحِم اللّهُ عَبده
مالكَMalik بنَson of المرحلِal-Murahhal
مالكَ بنَ المرحلِ
May God have mercy on His servant,
May God have mercy on His servant
