أُنبِئتُ وَالأَيامُ ذاتُ تَجارِبٍ

وَتُبدي لَكَ الأَيّامُ ما لَستَ تَعلَمُ

I was told, and days are full of experiences,

And days reveal to you what you do not know,

بِأَنَّ ثَراءَ المالِ يَنفَعُ رَبَّهُ

وَيُثني عَلَيهِ الحَمدَ وَهوَ مُذَمَّمُ

That wealth benefits its owner,

And draws praise upon him, even if defamed.

وَإِنَّ قَليلَ المالِ لِلمَرءِ مُفسِدٌ

يِحِزُّكُما حَزَّ القَطيعُ المُحَرَّمُ

Yet little money corrupts a man -

It demeans you like a forbidden herd.

يَرى دَرَجاتِ المَجدِ لا يَستَطيعُها

وَيَقعُدُ وَسطَ القَومِ لا يَتَكَلَّمُ

He sees ranks of glory he cannot attain,

And sits among the people, unable to speak.
