And indeed I said to my daughter, while she seared
I surely said to my daughter as she was
A sorrowful heart with deep-seated cares,
Scorching with the embers of sorrows a gloomy heart,

And she shed from her cheeks tears
In torrents from the anguish of parting—
Of the religion of the grief of parting's sunset,

With what they inflicted or traces therein.

She feared that fate would strike down her father
And he meet Death away from his kin:
And he would meet, among strangers, misfortune.

Be silent; your tears have gashed my heart.
Be silent! You have wounded my heart with tears
How often your tears have gashed hearts!
As long as your tears wound hearts.

So may God ward off from me
Perhaps God will defend me
The perils of what you fear, until I return.
From the suspicion you fear until I return.

بعَزيزٍ عَلَيهِ فَاِدعي المُجيبا
Nothing that the Exalted One wills
There is nothing He of lofty attributes desires
Is difficult for Him; so call upon the One who answers.
For someone dear to Him, so call upon the Respondent,

And cease to tear my heart apart now,
And stop severing my heart right now
Or make me suffer torment on my journey.
Or showing me torture on my journey.

I am in the Grasp of God whether I am
Far away or near to you.
Far from you or near you.

How often have we seen a man come from afar
And one staying upon his bed be stricken!
And a resident in his deathbed get struck!

And spare me your sobbing, for I
Let me be from your sobbing for I
Pay no heed to wailing once I have made up my mind.
Do not care if I am determined to weep.

God suffices me, then I prepared for the journey
A sturdy she-camel—what a noble mount she is!
A prayer by which I obtain a mount.
