تأمّل في الحياةِ ترى أموراً

تأمّل في الحياةِ ترى أموراً

ستعجبُ إن بدا لك كيف كانتْ

ستعجبُ إن بدا لك كيف كانتْ

Reflect on life, and you will see things.

Contemplate life and you will see things

You will marvel if it becomes clear to you how they once were.

That will amaze you, if you see how they were

فكم مِن كُربةٍ أبكتْ عيوناً

فكم مِن كُربةٍ أبكتْ عيوناً

فهوّنها الكريمُ لنا فهانتْ

فهوّنها الكريمُ لنا فهانتْ

For many a hardship made eyes weep,

For how many sorrows have made eyes weep

Then the Generous One eased it for us, and it became bearable.

Yet the Generous has eased them, so they passed

وكم مِن حاجةٍ كانت سراباً

وكم مِن حاجةٍ كانت سراباً

أرادَ اللهُ لُقياها فحانت

أرادَ اللهُ لُقياها فحانت

And many a need was a mirage;

And how many needs were but mirages

God willed its fulfillment, and its time came.

God wanted us to meet them, so they came

وكم ذُقنا المرارة مِن ظروفٍ

وكم ذُقنا المرارة مِن ظروفٍ

برغمِ قساوةِ الأيامِ لانتْ

برغمِ قساوةِ الأيامِ لانتْ

And how often we tasted bitterness from circumstances—

And how much bitterness we have tasted from circumstances

Despite the harshness of the days, they softened.

Yet despite the harshness of days, it softened

هي الدنيا لنا فيها شؤونٌ

هي الدنيا لنا فيها شؤونٌ

فإن زيّنتِها بالصبرِ زانتْ

فإن زيّنتِها بالصبرِ زانتْ

Such is the world; within it we have our affairs.

Such is this life, with all its concerns

So if you adorn it with patience, it becomes beautiful.

If you adorn it with patience, it is adorned
