Do you hear my anguish and my call?

Do you hear my torment and my call?

مازال يؤنسني خيالكِ كُلّما

فاضت بيَ الذكرى وطال عنائي

فاضت بيَ الذكرى وطال عنائي

Your image still comforts me whenever

Your image still comforts me whenever

Memory floods through me and my suffering drags on.

Memories overflow in me and my suffering is prolonged

لا تحسبي أني نسيتكِ لحظةً

لا تحسبي أني نسيتكِ لحظةً

ولتسألي وجدي وطول بكائي

ولتسألي وجدي وطول بكائي

Do not think I have forgotten you for a moment;

Do not think that I forgot you for a moment

And ask my yearning and my long weeping.

Ask my passion and the length of my crying

واللهِ ما لهجَ اللسانُ بدعوةٍ

واللهِ ما لهجَ اللسانُ بدعوةٍ

إلا ذكرتُكِ في حروف دعائي

إلا ذكرتُكِ في حروف دعائي

By God, my tongue has never uttered a prayer

By Allah, my tongue invokes no prayer

Without my mentioning you in the letters of my supplication.

Except I mention you in the letters of my supplication

أرجوهُ والقلبُ المتيّمُ موقنٌ

أرجوهُ والقلبُ المتيّمُ موقنٌ

أن الذي أدعوهُ فوقَ رجائي

أن الذي أدعوهُ فوقَ رجائي

I place my hope in Him, and my love-stricken heart is certain

I hope for it while my enamored heart is certain

That the One I call upon is greater than my hopes.

That He to whom I pray above my hopes

علّ الذي زرعَ التنائيَ بيننا

علّ الذي زرعَ التنائيَ بيننا

يوماً يُطيّبُ خاطري بلقاءِ

يوماً يُطيّبُ خاطري بلقاءِ

Perhaps the One who sowed separation between us

Will one day please my heart by our meeting

Will one day soothe my spirit with a meeting.

And if the Merciful decrees that we do not meet

فإذا قضى الرحمنُ ألّا نلتقي

فإذا قضى الرحمنُ ألّا نلتقي

فلتكتبي قلبي مع الشهداءِ

فلتكتبي قلبي مع الشهداءِ

And if the Most Merciful decrees that we shall not meet,

Then register my heart among the martyrs

Then inscribe my heart among the martyrs.
