لاnot تملأُfill الأحزانُsorrows فيin الدُّنياthis world سِوَىexcept
لا تملأُ الأحزانُ في الدُّنيا سِوَى
قلبٍa heart يعيشُlives مِنof التفاؤلoptimism مُعدَماbereft
قلبٍ يعيشُ مِن التفاؤل مُعدَما
In this world, sorrows fill only
Sorrow fills the world
a heart that lives bereft of optimism.
Except for a heart that lives devoid of optimism
كمhow many عثْرةٍa stumble كتَبَتْwrote نهايةَthe end طامحٍan aspirant
كم عثْرةٍ كتَبَتْ نهايةَ طامحٍ
فقدَhe lost السعادةhappiness بعدهاafter it وتحطَّماand he was shattered
فقدَ السعادة بعدها وتحطَّما
How many a stumble has written the end of an aspirant
How many a stumble has written the end of an ambitious one
who lost happiness afterward and was shattered.
Who lost happiness after it and was shattered
كمhow many ضلّlost قلبٌa heart بالقنوطِthrough despair طريقهُits way
كم ضلّ قلبٌ بالقنوطِ طريقهُ
كمhow many عاشَlived فيin الدنياthis world أُناسٌpeople كالدّمىlike dolls!
كم عاشَ في الدنيا أُناسٌ كالدّمى!
How many a heart has lost its way through despair!
How many a heart has lost its way with despair
How many people have lived in this world like dolls!
How many people have lived in the world like statues!
عجزواthey were incapable عنof الأحلامdreams وهيthough they are يسيرةٌeasy
عجزوا عن الأحلام وهي يسيرةٌ
والعجزُand helplessness كلّall العجزِhelplessness ألّاthat … not نحلُماwe dream
والعجزُ كلّ العجزِ ألّا نحلُما
They were unable to dream, though dreams are easy,
They failed at dreams though dreams are easy
and utter helplessness lies in our not dreaming.
And the greatest failure is that we do not dream
فانفضso shake off غبارthe dust اليأسِdespair عنكoff you فرُبماfor perhaps
فانفض غبار اليأسِ عنك فرُبما
يومًاone day ستحتضِنُyou will embrace السماthe sky والأنجُماand the stars
يومًا ستحتضِنُ السما والأنجُما
So shake the dust of despair off yourself, for perhaps
So shake off the dust of despair perhaps
one day you will embrace the sky and the stars.
One day the sky and stars will embrace you
إنif كُنتَyou are لاnot ترضىyou accept لروحكfor your soul مَوتَهاits death
إن كُنتَ لا ترضى لروحك مَوتَها
فلتسقِهاthen give it water كيso that لاnot تموتَit dies مِنfrom الظماthirst
فلتسقِها كي لا تموتَ مِن الظما
If you do not accept death for your soul,
If you do not wish your soul its death
then give it water, so it does not die of thirst.
Quench its thirst so it does not die of thirst
واصعدand ascend بهاwith it نحوtoward السماءthe sky وقُلand say لهاto it
واصعد بها نحو السماء وقُل لها
ماnot جِئتُI came للدنياinto this world لكيin order to أستَسلِماI surrender
ما جِئتُ للدنيا لكي أستَسلِما
And rise with it toward the sky, and tell it:
And ascend with it to the sky and say to it
I did not come into this world to surrender.
I did not come to this world just to surrender
