In pain, she hides her tears—if only she
She hides her tears, pained, and I wish
would weep; perhaps her heart would find relief.
She would cry, so her heart finds relief
أخشىI fear عليكِfor you حبيبتيmy beloved طولَthe length of الأسىsorrow
فيغيبso disappears عنكِfrom you الفجرُthe dawn والإصباحُand daybreak
I fear for you, my beloved, sorrow so prolonged
I fear for you my love, prolonged sorrow
that dawn and daybreak vanish from you.
The dawn and morning hidden from you
فبُكاكِso your weeping ياO وجَعيmy ache لقلبيَfor my heart رحمةٌmercy
ولنبضِand for the pulse of قلبكِyour heart غُمّةٌanguish تَنزاحُlifts away
So your weeping, O my ache, is mercy to my heart,
Your tears my pain, mercy for my heart
and, for your heart's pulse, anguish lifted away.
And for your heartbeats, gloom departs

Indeed, eyes reveal a secret when
Eyes reveal secrets when bodies
bodies and souls are in pain.
And souls ache and suffer greatly

So wash away your sorrow with tears; perhaps
Wash your worries with tears, maybe
wounds between the ribs will be healed through them.
Heal your wounds between the ribs completely
