إذاif بِتَّyou spent the night تطويholding within فيin ضلوعكyour ribs ضِيقةًanguish
وأقبلَand approached كلّall الهمّworry نحوكَtoward you وارتمىand flung itself down
If you spend the night holding anguish within your ribs,
When you pass the night distressed
And every worry approaches you and flings itself upon you,
And worries attack you from all sides
وأدبرَتْand retreated الآمالُhopes مِنfrom بعدِafter قُربهاtheir nearness
وأوشكَand was about to دمعُtears العينِof the eye أنto يتكلّماspeak
And hopes retreat after being close at hand,
And hopes retreat after coming near
And the eye's tears are about to speak,
And tears are about to speak
فياthen, O قلبُheart لاdo not تحزنgrieve لماfor what فاتَhas passed وانقضىand ended
فمَنfor whoever أدمنَbecame addicted to الأحزانَsorrows زادَincreased تألُّماin suffering
Then, O heart, do not grieve for what has passed and ended;
O heart, do not grieve for what is gone
For whoever becomes addicted to sorrow grows more anguished.
For he who is used to griefs increases agony
ومَنand whoever أَلِفَgrew accustomed to الشكوىcomplaining إلىto الناسِpeople زادَهُincreased for him
دوامُpersistence of التشكّيcomplaining حسرةًgrief وتندُّماand remorse
And whoever grows accustomed to complaining to people is given
And he who complains to people increases
More grief and remorse by constant complaining.
The continuation of complaining brings regret and remorse

Glad tidings will come to you from the Lord of heaven,
Good news will come to you from the Lord of the heavens
To make you forget the distress and thirst you endure.
To make you forget the distress and injustice you faced
إذاwhen جبرَmended الرحمنُthe Most Merciful بالُّلطفِwith kindness خاطراًa heart

سينسىwill forget ليالٍnights باتspent the night فيهاin them مُحَطّماًshattered
When the Most Merciful mends a heart with kindness,
When the Most Merciful mends a heart with kindness
It will forget the nights it spent shattered.
It will forget the nights it spent shattered
