I say to the one who sold affection and squandered it,

And, after harmony, sent it off and bade it farewell:

You listened to the slanderer and believed his words,

And punished me based on your hasty suspicions.

And none in this world is more misguided than the one

Who lends the slanderer his footsteps and his ear.

If only you had not listened to words of slander,

That came to you steeped in shades of suspicion.

But people's natures have returned to their roots,

And how many a friend has been reclaimed by his base nature!

You see him gentle, kindhearted, and smiling,

But foulness of character dwells within his ribs.

So thanks to heaven's decrees and its grace,

For they have revealed to me every deceiver and blind follower.
