وأحملُand I carry فيin جنبيّmy two sides ماwhat لاnot أُطيقهُI can bear it
فدقّاتُfor the beats قلبيmy heart بالمواجعِwith pains تُمزجُare mingled
And within my breast I carry what I cannot bear;
for my heartbeats are mingled with pain.
ومنand who ليfor me سوىother than ربيmy Lord ألوذُI seek refuge ببابهِat His door
إذاwhen لمnot يكُنbe ليfor me منfrom هموميَmy worries مَخرجُa way out
And who have I but my Lord, at whose door I seek refuge,
when I have no way out of my worries?
لئِنif indeed ظُنّit is thought ليfor me عندَwith الخلائقِcreated beings حاجةٌa need
فإنّيthen indeed I إلىof ربّthe Lord الخلائقِcreated beings أحوجُmore in need
If I am thought to have need of created beings,
then I have greater need of the Lord of created beings.
سيلطفُHe will be kind بيto me يومًاone day ويفرجُand He will relieve كُربةًan affliction
ظنَنتُI thought لِضَعفيbecause of my weakness أنّهاthat it لاnot تُفرجُwould be relieved
He will be kind to me one day and relieve an affliction
that, because of my weakness, I thought would not be relieved.
