كُلّall المشاعرِthe feelings فيin الحناياthe heart's recesses مُرهَقةْweary
ونِهايةُand the end الآمالِof hopes صارتْbecame مُحرِقةsearing
All feelings in the heart's recesses are weary.
And the end of hopes has become searing.
ذاكَthat one الذيwhom أسكنْـتُهُI lodged him فيin خاطريmy thoughts
وحلَفْتُand I swore بالرحمنِby the Most Merciful ألّاthat … not أُعتِقهْI set him free
That one whom I lodged in my thoughts,
And swore by the Most Merciful not to set him free,
ورفعتُهُand I raised him فوقَabove السماthe sky وسكَبْتُand I poured فيinto
عينيهِhis eyes حُبًاlove كالغيومِlike the clouds المُغدِقةpouring abundantly
And raised him above the sky, and poured into
His eyes love like clouds pouring abundantly,
ووهبتهُand I gave him ثِقةًtrust يعِزُّis rare مثيلُهاits equal
قدhas خانَbetrayed الفؤادَthe heart ومزّقهْand tore it apart
And gave him trust whose equal is rare—
Alas, he has betrayed the heart and torn it apart.
لمdid not أبكِI weep مِنout of أسَفيmy sorrow عليهover him وإنماbut rather
أبكيI weep علىfor القلبِthe heart الذيthat قدhad صدّقهْbelieved him
I did not weep out of sorrow over him; rather,
I weep for the heart that had believed him.
واليومand today أوصِدُI shut بابthe door قلبيof my heart عازمًاresolved
أنّthat الدروبَthe paths إليهِto it تبقىremain مُغلقةclosed
And today I shut the door of my heart, resolved
That the paths to it shall remain closed.
مهماhowever much تكسّرَshatters كلevery شيءٍthing بينناbetween us
يومًاone day سيُجبرُwill be mended كسْرُهُits fracture، إلاّexcept الثقةْtrust
However much everything between us may shatter,
One day its fracture will be mended—except for trust.
