You boasted of the day of al-Shayyitayn, though others
You boast of the day of Shaytan though others
bring harm and benefit on the day of al-Shayyitayn.
Are harmed by the day of Shaytan and benefitted,

And you brought it forth, blameworthy and ʿAnazite—
And you have come with it, blameworthy and disgraceful,
it almost limps from manifest baseness.
Almost overflowing with evident ignominy.
فإِنfor if يكُthere are أقوامٌpeople أصيبُواthey were struck بغرَّةٍunawares
فأنتُمthen you مِنَfrom الغاراتِthe raids أَخزىmore disgraced وأوجَعُand in greater pain
For if some people were struck unawares,
If there are people taken unaware,
then you are more disgraced and in greater pain from raids.
You are the most abject and grievous of raiders.
فَرِيقانِtwo groups منهُمamong them مَنthose who أتىcame البَحرُthe sea دونهُbetween us and him
وَمُودٍand one who perished كَمَاjust as أَودَتperished ثَمُودُThamud وتُبَّعُand Tubbaʿ
Two groups: some with the sea between us and them,
Two groups of them, one whom the sea engulfed
and others who perished, as Thamud and Tubbaʿ perished.
Like the engulfing of Thamud and Tubba's people.
وَماand none مِنكُمُof you أَفناءَclans بَكرِBakr بنِson of وائلٍWaʾil

And none of you, clans of Bakr ibn Waʾil,
And none of you are like the champions of Bakr ibn Wa'il
is anything but a docile, saddle-scarred beast in the face of our raid.
For our raid but humiliated and branded.
