‘Awf son of Nu‘man was saved from our spearheads
by his headlong gallop when the broken spear-shafts rose,
حتَّىuntil أَتَىhe reached الدَّهناal-Dahna يُواعِسُهُtraversing its sands
واللَّهُand God يَعلَمُknows بالصَّمَّانِin al-Samman ماwhat جَشِمُواthey endured
until he reached al-Dahna, pressing through its sands.
And God knows what they endured in al-Samman,
حتَّىuntil انتَهَواthey reached لِمِيَاهِto the waters of الجَوفِal-Jawf ظاهِرةًat midday

until they reached the waters of al-Jawf at midday—
a distance neither ‘Ad nor Iram had traveled before them.
