My she-camel shies away from Amr in a barren wilderness,
My two she-camels take fright at the mere mention of Amro in the desert,
yet no traveler by night used to shy away from Amr.
Though the one who travels by night has no cause to take fright at Amro.

His life indeed made life dear to me,
He made life seem sweet to me, such was his life,
and dwelling in the grave has become dear to me since he came to lie in the grave.
And since he went to the grave, I have loved the stillness of the grave.
