عَوِّدْtrain فُؤَادَكَyour heart أَنْto يَكُونَbe مَجَنَّةًa shelter
عَوِّدْ فُؤَادَكَ أَنْ يَكُونَ مَجَنَّةً
لِلسِّرِّfor the secret فَهْوَfor it لَدَىat الْمَحَافِلِthe gatherings حَمْدُهُits praise
لِلسِّرِّ فَهْوَ لَدَى الْمَحَافِلِ حَمْدُهُ
Train your heart to be a shelter
Accustom your heart to be a vault
For secrets, for this wins it praise in gatherings.
For secrets, for its glory among gatherings is praise.
السِّرُّthe secret عَبْدُكَyour slave مَاas long as اسْتَطَعْتَyou can حِفَاظَهُsafeguarding it
السِّرُّ عَبْدُكَ مَا اسْتَطَعْتَ حِفَاظَهُ
فَإِذَاbut when أَفَضْتَyou spoke openly بِهِabout it فَإِنَّكَthen indeed you عَبْدُهُits slave
فَإِذَا أَفَضْتَ بِهِ فَإِنَّكَ عَبْدُهُ
The secret is your slave as long as you can safeguard it;
The secret is your servant as long as you can guard it;
But when you divulge it, you are its slave.
But when you divulge it, you become its slave.
