لَئِنْeven if فَرَّقَتْhas separated مَاwhat بَيْنَنَاbetween us شُقَّةُgreat distance النَّوَىseparation
لَئِنْ فَرَّقَتْ مَا بَيْنَنَا شُقَّةُ النَّوَى
لَعَمْرِيby my life وَحَالَتْand have intervened دُونَنَاbetween us نُوَبُmisfortunes الدَّهْرِof time
لَعَمْرِي وَحَالَتْ دُونَنَا نُوَبُ الدَّهْرِ
Though the great distance of separation has parted us,
Even if fate's cruel hand has torn apart
and—by my life—the misfortunes of time have come between us,
Our lives, and time's long miles now hold us far,
فَشَخْصُكَyet your form فِيin عَيْنِيmy eye وَذِكْرُكَand the mention of you فِيin فَمِيmy mouth
فَشَخْصُكَ فِي عَيْنِي وَذِكْرُكَ فِي فَمِي
وَحُبُّكَand your love فِيin قَلْبِيmy heart وَسِرُّكَand your secret فِيin صَدْرِيmy breast
وَحُبُّكَ فِي قَلْبِي وَسِرُّكَ فِي صَدْرِي
yet your form is in my eye, and the mention of you in my mouth,
Your face still fills my eyes, your name my lips,
and your love is in my heart, and your secret in my breast.
Your love my heart, your secret thoughts my heart.
