خِيَانَةُ شِمْرٍ بَعْدَ غَدْرِ ابْنِ مُلْجَمِ
That there is no mercy in time is shown by
Their treachery reveals this age has no mercy,
Shimr's betrayal after the treachery of Ibn Muljam.
Shimr's betrayal after Ibn Muljam's deceit.
هُمَاthe two of them مَنْجَماtwo mines of شَرٍّevil وَصِنْوَاand twin shoots of ضَلالَةٍerror
هُمَا مَنْجَما شَرٍّ وَصِنْوَا ضَلالَةٍ

وَكُلُّ امْرِئٍ فِي الدَّهْرِ يُعْزَى لِمَنْجَمِ
They are two mines of evil and twin shoots of error,
Two stars of evil, two guides into error,
And every man in this world is traced to his source.
And every man is blamed on the star he orbits.
شَقِيَّانِtwo wretches هَامَاthey both wandered فِيin الضَّلالِerror فَأَصْبَحَاso they both became

دَرِيئَةَ لَعْنٍ مِنْ فَصِيحٍ وَأَعْجَمِ
Two wretches, they wandered in error and so became
Wretches wandering into heresy till daybreak
A target for curses from the eloquent and the inarticulate.
Cursed by eloquent and uncouth tongues alike,
لَقَدْindeed فَوَّقَاthey both nocked سَهْمَيْهِمَاtheir two arrows وَتَطَاوَلاand they both reached upward

إِلَى فَلَكٍ عَالٍ مُحَاطٍ بِأَنْجُمِ
They indeed nocked their two arrows and reached upward
Their arrows flew high, their ambition peaked
Toward a lofty sphere encircled by stars.
To that exalted sphere girdled with stars.
لَعَمْرِيby my life لَقَدْindeed بَاءاthey both incurred بِخِزْيٍwith disgrace وَلَعْنَةٍand a curse

By my life, they have indeed incurred disgrace and a curse,
By my life! They've earned but disgrace and curses,
And whoever shoulders disgrace from God is stoned.
Whoever awaits dishonor, by God shall be stoned.
