أَنَا مَصْدَرُ الْكَلِمِ النَّوَادِي

أَنَا مَصْدَرُ الْكَلِمِ النَّوَادِي

بَيْنَ الْحَواضِرِ وَالْبَوادِي

بَيْنَ الْحَواضِرِ وَالْبَوادِي

I am the source of far-famed words

I am the source of the eloquent word,

among the cities and the desert lands.

Between cities and deserts far and near,

أَنَا فَارِسٌ أَنَا شَاعِرٌ

أَنَا فَارِسٌ أَنَا شَاعِرٌ

فِي كُلِّ مَلْحَمَةٍ وَنَادِي

فِي كُلِّ مَلْحَمَةٍ وَنَادِي

I am a knight; I am a poet

I am a knight, I am a poet,

in every battle and assembly.

In every epic tale and gathering clear,

فَإِذَا رَكِبْتُ فَإِنَّنِي

فَإِذَا رَكِبْتُ فَإِنَّنِي

زَيْدُ الْفَوارِسِ فِي الْجِلادِ

زَيْدُ الْفَوارِسِ فِي الْجِلادِ

So when I mount, I am indeed

When mounted, I am Zayd the valiant knight,

Zayd of the Knights in combat.

Among the brave warriors in the fight,

وَإِذَا نَطَقْتُ فَإِنَّنِي

وَإِذَا نَطَقْتُ فَإِنَّنِي

قُسُّ بْنُ سَاعِدَةَ الإِيَادِي

قُسُّ بْنُ سَاعِدَةَ الإِيَادِي

And when I speak, I am indeed

When speaking, I am Quss the eloquent bard,

Quss ibn Sāʿidah al-Iyādī.

Of the mighty tribe whose tales inspire and delight,

هَذَا وَذَلِكَ دَيْدَنِي

هَذَا وَذَلِكَ دَيْدَنِي

فِي كُلِّ مُعْضِلَةٍ نَآدِ

فِي كُلِّ مُعْضِلَةٍ نَآدِ

This and that are my constant practice

This and that is my habit,

in every formidable predicament.

In every difficult impasse I shine bright.
