Fill the cup to the brim and bring it,
Pour me a cup, my mother,
And give it to me to drink, O my oryx.
And serve it to me,
وامْزُجِيهَاand mix it بِرُضابٍwith saliva

And mingle it with saliva
Mix it with the nectar
From you, honey-sweet to the palate.

Wine is but the pivot of
For wine is the pivot
Good cheer in every quarter.
Of joy in every quarter;

Many a time, over it, I have defied
Long have I disobeyed
My loved ones and those who admonish me.
My family and dear ones;

In my love for it, I pay no heed
I care not what I hear
To the idle nonsense I hear.
From the mouths of blamers,
كَيْفَhow أَخْشَىI fear قَوْلَthe words of دَاهٍa shrewd man
أَناI مِنْof قَوْمٍa people دُهاةِshrewd
How could I fear a shrewd man's words,
How can I fear the words
When I am of a shrewd people?
Of a slanderer? I am of a daring tribe.
